Hridaykunj Gandhiji’s Home at the Sabarmati Ashram
Gandhiji stayed in this house from 1919 to 1930, which is why Kakasaheb Kalelkar named it Hridaykunj – literally, the heart of the Ashram! The Ashram used to be abuzz with various activities. Several national and international leaders came to meet Gandhiji here. During this period, people started acknowledging Mohandas Gandhi as Mahatma Gandhi. This was the place where he took the famous pledge at the beginning of the Dandi March, stating, “I will not return to this Ashram without attaining freedom.”
