Economical use of water
There is a stand in the room in which three reservoirs have been built. Utensils were cleaned in all three reservoirs, one after the other, so that using too much water was avoided. There was a river just across from them, but Gandhiji used to say, “The river water is not just for us” he had the vision to maintain environmental balance, which manifests in his economical use of natural resources. The Ashram relied on its three wells and river water, for its needs.
Toilets with ground pits and sliding metal sheets were used here. Excrement used to be mixed with soil and compost was made of it.
